PART ONE
THE CHALLENGE
A model breaks her foot the day before her photoshoot.
Time to cancel? Not even close!
In this episode we make a quick pivot to overcome adversity and keep that shutter firing.
Join us as we create our latest project.
PART TWO
THE GARAGE
In the interest of keeping things simple, we decided to reduce our creative process down to the bear skin rug minimum (see what I did there). Natural sunlight is going to do all the work on the lighting side of the house.
And, we’re going to use the dark depths of Ashley’s messy garage to create an exposure disparity that will black out the background.
No drapes, no curtains, no C-Stands. No flash. No reflectors. Just bright sun, and dark garage.
PART THREE
THE SHADE
And, as our images come to life, the lemonade factory is starting to taste pretty good.
Our dark, messy garage drops away with a massive exposure differential, and the soft shade on Ashley’s face creates beautiful, even light.
Who needs a studio when you have a garage full of old crap you never use!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Ashley just finished the last of her radiation treatment; and now, cancer free, her hair is growing back very nicely. And so, as you can see, the broken foot saga has manifested into a nice little project. I would consider these images to be some of our best to date. Which means, it just goes to show, don’t let adversity get you down.
Stand up (or sit up), your choice, and pull that camera out of the bag. You can accomplish great things with a very simple setup, and zero dollars down. Your imagination is, and always will be, totally free to use.
